Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this Limited Production single-action revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt “Cowboy” Single Action Army.
The Colt Cowboy Single Action Army was produced for only a brief period from 1999 to 2003, making it an increasingly desirable model among collectors worldwide. This particular example is especially noteworthy, having been manufactured in 2000—the second year of production—adding to its appeal as an early and scarce representation of Colt’s modern single-action revival.
According to the owner, this example is in “New in Box” condition, and we see no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Cowboy Single Action (Model CB1850) was introduced in the late 1990s as Colt’s modern interpretation of a traditional single-action revolver, designed to appeal to Cowboy Action Shooting enthusiasts and shooters seeking a classic Western-style sidearm at a more accessible price point. While it closely resembled the iconic Colt Single Action Army in appearance and handling, the Cowboy was mechanically distinct, utilizing a transfer-bar ignition system rather than the traditional Colt hammer and firing pin arrangement. This design allowed the revolver to be safely carried with all chambers loaded, aligning it with modern safety expectations. Chambered in popular calibers such as .45 Colt and .44-40, the CB1850 featured fixed sights, a traditional plow-handle grip, and finishes that emphasized utility over ornate detailing.

Historically, the Colt Cowboy occupies an unusual place in Colt’s lineup, as it was produced largely with outsourced and modernized manufacturing methods rather than the traditional Hartford-made, hand-fitted approach associated with earlier Colt single actions. Many internal components were produced using modern techniques, and final assembly reflected Colt’s attempt to remain competitive in a market increasingly dominated by Italian replicas. Produced in limited numbers and for a relatively short period, the Cowboy did not achieve the lasting success Colt had hoped for, yet it has since gained recognition as a distinctive transitional model. Today, the CB1850 is appreciated by collectors as a modern Colt-branded single-action revolver that bridges classic Old West aesthetics with contemporary manufacturing and safety design.
