Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
This is a faithful reproduction of the legendary LeMat revolver, often called one of the most romantic firearms of the 19th century. Originally designed by Jean Alexandre LeMat of New Orleans, it was produced in Paris, France, and Birmingham, England, and quickly became a favored sidearm of Confederate generals J.E.B. Stuart and P.G.T. Beauregard. The LeMat is unique for its combination of a nine-shot .44-caliber revolver cylinder and a secondary .20-gauge smoothbore shotgun barrel mounted beneath the main barrel. The hammer features a pivoting nose that can be rotated downward to strike the nipple for the shotgun barrel, allowing the shooter to switch between projectiles. This reproduction is N/SSA approved and includes checkered two-piece European walnut grips, richly blue metal components, and a 6 3/4-inch octagonal rifled barrel with seven lands and grooves.

It uses #11 percussion caps, has post front and hammer grooved sights, and retains the original “Col. LeMat” barrel markings. The hammer and trigger are both color case hardened, and this cavalry model features a spur trigger guard with a cross-pin barrel selector and lever-style barrel release. Made in Italy by Pietta, it captures the distinctive design and historical character of the original.
