Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger Vaquero is a six-shot single-action revolver manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co. It is based on the New Model Ruger Blackhawk frame and was introduced in 1993. The revolver comes in blued steel, case colored, and a gloss stainless finish. The latter finish is intended to closely resemble a 19th-century nickel-plated finish. It is available with wood, hard rubber, simulated ivory, or black micarta grips and fixed sights. The Ruger Vaquero gained popularity with Cowboy Action Shooting, leading to demand for a single-action revolver with a more traditional appearance.

The Ruger Vaquero is a variation of the New Model Blackhawk revolver, equipped with fixed sights including a front blade and a notch milled into the rear frame. The original version featured a 7 1/2 inch barrel and was chambered in .45 Colt, with a frame designed to resemble color case-hardened steel and a blue barrel, grip frame, and cylinder. Subsequent models were offered with 5 1/2 inch and 4 5/8 inch barrels, matching the common barrel lengths of the Colt Single Action Army revolver. The Vaquero was available in stainless steel and offered in calibers such as .44 Magnum, .357 Magnum, and .44-40 Winchester. Initially, all Ruger Vaqueros were shipped with walnut grips featuring a Ruger logo in a medallion. In 1998, some models started to ship with faux-ivory grips, and limited runs with gold inlay and engraving were also offered. Similar to the New Model Blackhawk, the Vaquero does not need to be half-cocked for loading and unloading. Additionally, it utilizes a transfer bar mechanism to prevent accidental firing of the cartridge under the hammer without the trigger being pulled. The Vaquero was introduced in 1993 to cater to the increasing demand for high-quality modern firearms utilized in the sport of cowboy action shooting.
