Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 1886 is one of the most revered lever-action rifles in American firearms history. Designed by John Browning, it was specifically created to handle some of the more powerful cartridges of the late 19th century, making it ideal for hunting large game. Originally chambered in .45-70 Government, .45-90 Sharps, and .40-82 Winchester, the Model 1886 quickly earned a reputation for its strength and reliability. This particular model is chambered in .45-90, a black powder cartridge known for its power and performance, and is marked “.45-90 Black Powder Only” on the right side of the barrel. The rifle features a fixed 26" full octagon barrel, providing excellent balance and a classic, timeless aesthetic.

This specific example, manufactured in 2004, is a Davidson Distribution Exclusive and is part of a limited production run of only 500 units. The rifle is finished in a classic blue, complementing its smooth walnut stock for an elegant, yet rugged appearance. The dovetail bead blade front sight and semi-buckhorn adjustable rear sight ensure accuracy and ease of targeting, making this rifle as functional as it is beautiful. The action is a lever-action, maintaining the smooth cycling and reliability for which the Model 1886 is known. The Model 1886 was originally designed for black powder cartridges, but the strength of its action allowed it to transition to smokeless powder with minimal modifications, expanding its range of available calibers. This rifle reflects the durability and craftsmanship of its predecessors, with the added distinction of being part of a rare, limited edition series. Whether for a collection or field use, the Winchester Model 1886 in .45-90 is a truly exceptional firearm that embodies the legacy of American firearm engineering.
