Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger P-Series is a line of semi-automatic pistols manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co., known for solid construction, reliability, and practical design. The series began with the full-sized P85 in 9mm, developed in the mid-1980s, partly influenced by Ruger’s participation in U.S. military pistol trials, although the military never adopted it. Early P-Series pistols, including the P85, P89 (9mm), P90 (.45 ACP), and P91 (.40 S&W), featured aluminum-alloy frames with steel slides and double-action/single-action (DA/SA) triggers, often with safety/decocker or decocker-only controls depending on the model. Compact and mid-sized models followed, such as the P93 (9mm) and P94 (9mm), while the .40 S&W version of the P94 is known as the P944; these models offered slightly smaller dimensions and internal refinements for improved handling. The P95 introduced a polymer frame in 9mm, reducing weight and improving ergonomics, and the P95PR variant introduced in 2005 added a rail for accessories, followed by polymer-framed models like the P97 (.45 ACP). The P345, also in .45 ACP, featured a slimmer grip, accessory rail, magazine disconnect safety, and updated controls, serving as the last P-Series model before Ruger transitioned to the SR Series. Overall, the P-Series established a reputation for durability, functional design, and dependable performance.
