The Charles Daly Hi-Power (CDHP) was produced between 2002 and 2006. Seeking to offer a domestically assembled alternative to the iconic Browning Hi-Power, KBI imported unfinished FÉG P9 kits—a faithful pre-Mark II clone of the Hi-Power—from Hungary. These kits were then contracted out for completion to U.S. manufacturers: Dan Wesson assembled approximately the first 500–800 units, while Magnum Research completed the remaining pistols. The Dan Wesson-assembled pistols bore serial numbers prefixed with “HP” and featured Novak-style dovetail cuts sized for Hi-Power dimensions. The Magnum Research-assembled pistols had serial numbers prefixed with “HPM” and were milled for Novak-style dovetail cuts sized for 1911 dimensions. This collaboration allowed the CDHP to be stamped “Made in U.S.A.,” aligning with KBI's marketing strategy. Despite the pistols' high-quality construction and faithful adherence to the original Hi-Power design, the project proved financially unviable for KBI.
