Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The 2008 production Smith & Wesson Model 27 represents a modern-era continuation of one of the most prestigious revolvers ever built by Smith & Wesson. By 2008, the Model 27 was typically produced in the Model 27-8 configuration, built on the large N-frame and chambered in .357 Magnum, while still retaining the ability to safely fire .38 Special for lighter recoil and range use. These revolvers preserved the elegant styling cues that made the original .357 Magnum famous in 1935, including a deep, high-polish blued finish and the distinctive, finely checkered top strap designed to reduce glare under bright light. Unlike early “pinned and recessed” examples from decades prior, the 2008 version used modern manufacturing techniques, including a crush-fit barrel system, and incorporated Smith & Wesson’s internal key lock mechanism on the left side of the frame. Barrel lengths most commonly offered during this period were 4 inches and 6½ inches, typically with a full underlug that adds forward balance and helps manage recoil from full-power magnum loads.

The revolver operates in traditional double-action/single-action mode, with a smooth, consistent double-action pull and a crisp single-action break, resulting in excellent practical accuracy. Adjustable rear sights paired with a pinned front sight blade allow shooters to fine-tune the point of impact. While collectors often differentiate modern examples from earlier pre-1982 models, the 2008 Model 27 maintains the same robust N-frame strength, refined finish, and authoritative magnum performance that have defined the Model 27’s reputation for generations, making it both a functional shooter and a tribute to one of the most iconic revolver designs in American firearms history.
