Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 637 Airweight is a compact, double-action/single-action revolver chambered in .38 Special +P, purpose-built for discreet concealed carry and dependable everyday defense. Initially introduced in a limited 1989 run, the Model 637 was reintroduced in 1996 with updated features and refinements that enhanced both durability and shootability. Built on a lightweight J-Magnum aluminum alloy frame with a round butt and three screws, it features a 1.875-inch stainless steel barrel, a 5-shot fluted cylinder, and fixed serrated ramp front and notch-cut rear sights for quick target acquisition. Enhancements in the reintroduced model include a Metal Injection Molded (MIM) flat-face hammer with a floating firing pin, a MIM thumbpiece, and refined internal lockwork, along with a redesigned extractor system and slightly lengthened cylinder yoke for improved reliability. The revolver typically came equipped with Uncle Mike’s Boot Grips on a smooth backstrap, a .312-inch smooth satin-finished trigger, and a distinctive frosted stainless finish that gives it a clean, classic appearance.

Beginning with the -1 series, the frame was marked “Airweight,” and later -2 variants incorporated the internal lock system with S&W trademarks on both the frame and sideplate. Weighing approximately 13.5 ounces unloaded, the Model 637 remains a trusted lightweight defensive revolver, blending practical carry dimensions, proven performance, and the long-standing craftsmanship associated with Smith & Wesson.
