Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger Wrangler (Model 2004) is a lightweight, affordable single-action revolver built around the proven Single-Six pattern but optimized for everyday plinking, training, and small-game use with the economical .22 LR cartridge. At roughly 30 oz. with a 4.62" cold-hammer-forged barrel, the Wrangler balances portability and sight radius to give a surprisingly steady shooting platform for a compact revolver. The 1:14" RH twist and six-groove rifling in the barrel are tuned for typical .22 LR bullets and—combined with the precise rifling produced by cold hammer forging—deliver consistent accuracy and long barrel life when paired with decent ammunition. Ergonomically it uses a Single-Six style grip frame fitted with checkered synthetic grips for a secure hold in wet or extended-range conditions, and the blade front/integral notch rear sighting is simple, rugged, and effective for the ranges this revolver is intended to be used at. Functionally the Wrangler emphasizes safe, low-cost fun and reliability. Its aluminum-alloy cylinder/frame with a burnt-bronze Cerakote finish keeps weight down while offering good corrosion resistance and an attractive, hard-wearing surface; Cerakote also helps the revolver stand up to holster, range, and field duty. The transfer-bar mechanism plus a loading-gate interlock provide modern drop-safe protection and make carrying a chambered round much safer than on vintage single-action designs, while the six-shot capacity keeps reloads simple and the rimfire economy means lots of practice for little cost. For shooters wanting a low-maintenance trainer or a handy camp/field sidearm the Wrangler is an excellent choice: it’s easy to clean, tolerant of different ammo brands, and pleasant to shoot. Limitations are predictable—.22 LR’s ballistics confine the revolver to short-range tasks and small game, and the integral fixed sights won’t match a precision sighting system for target-level accuracy—yet for its purpose the Wrangler delivers an appealing mix of classic single-action character, modern safety, and rugged, low-cost utility.
