Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this LIMITED EDITION single-action cap & ball percussion revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt 3rd Generation Signature Series 1860 Army Gold U.S. Cavalry!

The Colt 1860 Gold U.S. Cavalry edition is a striking, deluxe interpretation of the iconic 1860 Army revolver, crafted to appeal directly to high-end Colt blackpowder collectors. Distinguished by its richly detailed 24-karat gold-plated cylinder, adorned with crossed sabers and bold “U.S.” and “1860” markings, this special model blends historical styling with presentation-grade finishes. The barrel is accented with elegant gold bands, while the frame, loading lever, plunger, and hammer feature authentic Colt color case hardening for added depth and visual character. Completing the design, the backstrap and trigger guard are fully gold-plated and protected by the ClearLyte lacquer process. Together, these premium elements create a uniquely handsome and highly display-worthy revolver that stands out even among other commemorative Colt blackpowder arms.

This example remains New Old Stock, showing no evidence of consumer use or handling whatsoever.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt 3rd Generation “Signature Series” represents the final chapter in Colt-marked percussion revolvers, produced from 1994 to 2002 under a licensing agreement between Colt Blackpowder Arms Co. (founded by Lou Imperato) and Colt’s Manufacturing Company. Unlike the Second Generation “C” and “F” Series, which were partially produced or finished by Colt, the Signature Series revolvers were not manufactured, inspected, or warranted by Colt, despite carrying Colt’s name and trademarks. Instead, parts were sourced primarily from Uberti and later Armi San Marco in Italy, with final assembly, finishing, and quality control performed at Imperato’s Iver Johnson facility in New York. These revolvers were marketed and distributed through John J. Jovino & Co., another Imperato-owned company. The line takes its name from the engraved facsimile Samuel Colt signature on the backstrap of each gun—an instantly recognizable hallmark that distinguishes the series. Though not factory Colt products, these revolvers were well-crafted, attractively finished, and faithfully detailed, making them a popular option for collectors and blackpowder enthusiasts seeking visually appealing examples of historic Colt designs.

The Signature Series included a wide range of classic Colt percussion models, effectively recreating nearly the entire family of 19th-century Colt cap-and-ball revolvers. Offerings included the 1847 Walker, 1848 Dragoon series (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Models), 1848 Baby Dragoon, 1849 Pocket, 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, 1861 Navy, and the 1862 Pocket Police and Pocket Navy. The series also featured revolvers such as the 1855 Root Sidehammer models, Special Edition sets, and deluxe commemoratives like the 1860 Gold U.S. Cavalry and other engraved or limited-production variants. Each revolver adhered to the traditional Colt aesthetic, with options for charcoal blue, case-hardened frames, and brass or steel grip frames, depending on the historical pattern reproduced. While Colt does not typically provide factory letters for these revolvers due to the lack of Colt production records, the Signature Series remains a significant and collectible part of modern Colt-marked blackpowder history, bridging the gap between authentic historical design and contemporary manufacturing craftsmanship.
