The AMT AutoMag “Long Slide” pistols are highly collectible and scarce due to their extremely limited production, experimental nature, and place within one of the most turbulent chapters of American handgun manufacturing. Produced in very small numbers by Arcadia Machine & Tool, these extended-slide variants were never standard catalog items and were often assembled in short runs, sometimes using available parts during periods of financial instability. The longer slide and barrel not only enhance the AutoMag’s already striking futuristic profile but also improve sight radius and ballistic performance, making them especially desirable to enthusiasts of the platform. Compounding their rarity, many AutoMags—particularly long slides—were hard-used, modified, or parted out over the decades, leaving very few intact, original examples today. As a result, surviving Long Slide AutoMags represent the pinnacle of AMT AutoMag collecting, commanding strong premiums and significant interest from advanced collectors who appreciate their mechanical ambition, dramatic design, and undeniable scarcity.

The AMT Automag III is a single-action semi-automatic handgun, designed by Harry Sanford, creator of the first Automag. The Automag III does not actually fire a magnum cartridge, but is chambered for the .30 Carbine cartridge, originally designed for the World War II-era M1 carbine. It was also chambered initially for the 9mm Winchester Magnum cartridge. Only the original AMT production pistols were made in 9mm Winchester Magnum; later, Galena production was only in .30 Carbine. It is made of stainless steel and has an 8-round magazine.
