Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
For over 150 years, the Drilling has been a classic and highly regarded hunting arm throughout much of Europe, particularly in Germany and Austria. Designed to meet the practical demands of continental hunting traditions, the Drilling offered a single firearm capable of taking both winged game and large animals—often on the same outing and sometimes within just a few hours of one another. Typically configured with two shotgun barrels and a rifle barrel, it allowed hunters to adapt instantly to changing game without the need to carry multiple long guns. This versatility was especially valuable in mountainous or forested terrain, where long distances and extended stalking made weight, balance, and reliability critical considerations. In addition to its practical advantages, the Drilling reflects a long tradition of fine European gunmaking, combining precision engineering with elegant craftsmanship. In more recent times, increasingly restrictive firearm regulations across many European countries have further reinforced the appeal of the Drilling, as a single, multi-purpose firearm offers hunters maximum capability while remaining within legal and logistical limits.
