Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this special edition, time-honored semi-automatic “submachine gun” for a penny-start auction; this is the Auto Ordnance Thompson 1927A-1 TIG Model!

Auto-Ordnance of Greeley, Pennsylvania, proudly introduced the limited-edition TIG Series Thompson in January 2018—a special rendition of the classic 1927-A1 Deluxe Carbine chambered in .45 ACP. Only 1,000 of these commemorative “Tommy Guns” were produced, each engraved with its series number, the TIG logo, John “TIG” Tiegen’s signature, and the Beyond the Battlefield logo. The first fifty guns were released as exclusive three-gun sets that included the Kahr ST9 TIG and Magnum Research Desert Eagle TIG, along with an autographed copy of 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi. A portion of the proceeds from each firearm supports Beyond the Battlefield, the non-profit foundation founded by Tiegen and his wife to assist wounded veterans in recovery and reintegration.

According to the owner, this example is in New Old Stock condition, and we see no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Thompson 1927A-1, often celebrated as the semi-automatic descendant of the legendary “Chicago Typewriter®,” continues the iconic legacy of one of America’s most recognizable firearms. Chambered in .45 ACP, this modern version faithfully preserves the Thompson’s classic profile while incorporating refinements for today’s collectors and enthusiasts. Its finned barrel, paired with a pinned Cutts compensator, extends to 18 inches for an overall length of 41 inches, maintaining the gun’s distinctive appearance and balance. Depending on the model, the 1927A-1 can feature either a blued steel receiver (T1) for traditional weight and feel or a lighter aluminum receiver (T5) for improved handling. The carbine’s polished American Walnut furniture, including a fixed stock and vertical foregrip, evokes the craftsmanship of the original Prohibition-era design. Variants such as the T1-14, with a shortened 16.5-inch barrel, and the T1-C “Commando” model, finished in parkerized steel with a matte black stock set, demonstrate Auto-Ordnance’s commitment to offering both historical fidelity and functional variety within the line.

Special editions such as the T1B, featuring a detachable buttstock, and the limited TIG Series commemorate the Thompson’s enduring cultural and historical significance. The TIG edition—limited to only 1,000 pieces—honors John “TIG” Tiegen, a veteran and co-author of 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi. Each TIG Thompson bears special engravings, numbering, and insignia, and the first fifty units were paired in three-gun sets alongside Kahr and Magnum Research models. Proceeds from this limited run support the Beyond the Battlefield Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Tiegen and his wife to aid wounded veterans in rehabilitation and reintegration. Whether in its traditional carbine form or as part of a commemorative series, the Thompson 1927A-1 stands as a living tribute to American firearm history—uniting craftsmanship, heritage, and purpose in one of the most recognizable silhouettes in small arms.
