Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this single-shot, breech-loading shotgun for a penny-start auction; this is the Belgian “Zulu”.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Manufacturer: Belgian
Model: Zulu
Serial: 1532
Caliber: 12 Gauge

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Belgian “Zulu” shotgun is an antique single-shot firearm commonly encountered as a late 19th-century Belgian conversion of surplus French military muzzleloaders, most notably patterns such as the Model 1857 and related arms. These conversions were carried out in Belgium, adapting obsolete percussion rifles to fire metallic cartridges using the Tabatière breechloading system. Characterized by a side-hinged breechblock and an external hammer, the Zulu shotgun offered a simple, affordable, and functional design intended for basic hunting and utility use. The term “Zulu” is a collector-applied nickname rather than an official manufacturer designation, often associated with colonial-era use or export markets. Typically found in 12 gauge, though bore dimensions can vary, Zulu shotguns usually feature long smoothbore barrels measuring approximately 29 to 34 inches, a basic front bead sight, hardwood stocks, and metal buttplates. Markings may include Belgian proof stamps, the word “ZULU,” or decorative carvings added during or after conversion. Mechanically straightforward, the Tabatière action allows the breechblock to swing open for loading, then close and lock before the hammer is cocked and fired. Today, Belgian Zulu shotguns are valued primarily as historical and collectible artifacts that illustrate the transitional period from muzzleloading to cartridge firearms, and they require careful handling due to their age and original low-pressure design.
Return Policy:
We gladly offer a 3 day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.
