Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta 950 “Minx” M2 is a delightfully tiny, tip-up-barrel pocket pistol built on Beretta’s venerable Model 950 platform and chambered for the anemic but historically popular .22 Short cartridge — a true “mouse gun” designed for maximum concealability rather than stopping power. Measuring only about 4.7 inches long, weighing under 10 ounces, and fitted with a sprung, aluminum-alloy frame and a carbon-steel slide and barrel, the Minx M2 trades bulk for palm-fitting convenience while keeping a surprisingly solid, all-metal construction for such a small firearm. Its operating design is simple and purposeful: single-action only, blowback cycling, a spring-loaded tip-up barrel that lets you load a round directly into the chamber without racking the slide (a real advantage for shooters with limited thumb strength), and a six-round magazine with the ability to carry one in the chamber when the barrel is tipped up — although the design lacks a mechanical extractor so spent cases rely on blowback to eject and must sometimes be removed by hand if they stick. The post-1968 950BS/Minx variants added a left-side thumb safety (the Minx M2 designation appears in commercial records and blue-book listings for later Minx runs), which improved safe-carry ergonomics compared with earlier, safety-less models that depended on inertial firing-pin practice. On the range the Minx M2 behaves exactly as its specs suggest: inherently limited ballistically by the .22 Short (typical velocities in original tests are low), modestly accurate at close distances thanks to its fixed sights and short sight radius, and charmingly fun for light plinking or as a collector’s “novelty” carry piece rather than a serious defensive tool. Because the Minx is so small and specialized, condition, provenance and whether the particular example retains its safety, original grips and magazine strongly affect both usability and collector value — well-preserved Minx M2s command a premium on the used market compared with worn or incomplete examples. In short, the Beretta 950 Minx M2 is an adorable, well-built pocket pistol that embodies mid-century Italian micro-pistol design: mechanically straightforward, eminently pocketable, historically interesting, but best appreciated with realistic expectations about its tiny cartridge and limited practical stopping power.
