The Beretta Mato is a premium bolt-action sporting rifle that made its debut in the late 1990s and continued production into the 2000s, representing Beretta's foray into the high-end hunting rifle market. Engineered around a robust Mauser 98-derived, controlled-round-feed action, the Mato prioritizes strength, reliability, and traditional big-game performance over lightweight construction. Collectors often recognize early production rifles as being built on receivers manufactured by Dakota Arms, particularly those based on the Dakota Model 97 action. Later models utilized Beretta-produced actions, which were crafted to mirror the Dakota design. Key features of the Mato include a large non-rotating claw extractor, a fixed blade ejector, a three-position safety, and a detachable box magazine that mimics the appearance of a hinged floorplate. The Mato is equipped with high-quality 23.6-inch barrels and adjustable triggers. It was available in both synthetic stock options and limited runs with walnut stocks, along with a black satin (blued) finish.
