*LIVE* 1996 Colt Realtree Anaconda .44 Mag Camo *ULTRA RARE - ONLY 1000 PRODUCED*
Bryant Ridge's Analysis
Colt's New Service, a large-frame double-action revolver, was discontinued in 1942. It wasn't until 1990 that Colt introduced its next large-frame model, the Colt Anaconda. The Anaconda was a stainless steel revolver based on the reliable King Cobra revolver design, featuring a transfer bar ignition-safety action. It was specifically designed for unlimited use of .44 Magnum ammo and had a massive forged frame and cylinder heat treated to provide maximum strength. The revolver was chambered in the .44 Magnum and the .45 Long Colt, with barrel lengths available in 4", 5" (rare and not cataloged), 6", and 8". Magna-porting for the barrel was offered on some versions. Interestingly, the right side of the barrel was marked "Double Action Revolver" and the usual "Colt's P.T.F.A. Mfg Co. Hartford Conn. USA" on some models, and ".44 Magnum Cartridge" and "Colt's P.T.F.A. Mfg Co. Hartford Conn. USA" on other models.
In his book "Seven Serpents: The History of Colt's Snake Guns", Gurney Brown mentions that in 1996, Colt offered a new variation of the Anaconda model. This new variation was available in .44 Magnum with an 8" barrel and a factory Redfield 2 1/2- 7x variable scope. It was cataloged as the Model MM3080RT. The gun, scope, and scope base were finished in Realtree All Purpose Grey Camo, and the barrel was roll marked "COLT REALTREE .44 MAGNUM" on the left side of the barrel and "DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER" and Colt's address information on the right side of the barrel.
This model did not come equipped with iron sights, and the blade slot and pin holes were left vacant. The vintage Industries TP combat-style grips with silver rampant Colt medallions were standard for this edition. The serpentine Colt logo was molded into the grips below the medallions. Optional Hogue Monogrips featured the serpentine Colt logo molded into the right upper area of the grips. This hunting variation was offered for only a year and came shipped in a padded Realtree Camo carrying pouch with internal security straps. The outside of the pouch is embroidered with gold, which reads "TEAM/COLT/REALTREE."
