*LIVE* Smith Wesson 3913TSW 9mm Stainless 3.5" *COMPACT "9 TACTICAL S&W" MODEL*
Bryant Ridge's Analysis
The TSW abbreviation stands for "Tactical Smith & Wesson" and represents the top-of-the-line pistols. These pistols have different sight packages and checkering, and the later models are equipped with a tactical light rail. The standard 3913 version of this gun has also been recently introduced along with the value models 908 and 908S. The same basic gun has previously been manufactured as a Model 39, 439, 639, and potentially others. One of the attractive features of these guns is their extensive production history, making them relatively easy to find in the used market. The 3913 TSW is a 9mm gun with a single-stack magazine, which means it can hold only a single row of ammunition. In the world of double-stack guns, such as Glocks, Berettas, SIGs, and H&Ks, the single-stack 9mm gun may appear to have lost its popularity. However, although the magazine can hold only nine rounds, it has benefits that may make it worth considering.
Carrying and concealing a thin gun is much easier as compared to a bulkier one. The grip part of a gun is usually the most challenging to hide, especially in the case of a double-stack 9mm grip which can be problematic. However, the 3913 model's grip is adorned with very thin synthetic grips, which are approximately 1 inch in width. The slide of this model measures only 0.9 inches across, although the width is increased by the slide-mounted safety lever. The S&W 3913 TSW is equipped with what S&W refers to as "traditional double-action" or TDA. In the TDA setup, the gun has an ambidextrous, slide-mounted, de-cocking/safety lever. The firearm is designed to be carried with the hammer down, requiring a long, double-action pull to fire the first shot. All subsequent shots are single-action, with a bit of take-up, but a reasonably lightweight pull. The gun can be carried with the safety engaged (requiring disengagement before firing) or with the safety disengaged (relying on the weight of the double-action trigger pull for safety). The choice of carrying with the safety on or off is a matter of personal preference and training.
