Here we present an antique Ames Manufacturing Co. U.S. Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officers Sword, made in 1863 in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The Model 1840 NCO was issued to sergeants as a secondary weapon. It saw use primarily during the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. This 1863 dated Ames Model 1840 NCO sword has a 32 inch single fuller straight blade with an overall length of 39 inches. The left side is marked "Made By / AMES MFg. Co. / CHICOPEE / MASS". The right ricasso is marked "US/A.D.K./1863". The inspection initials "A.D.K." are for A.D. King. This sword has a brass hilt and a leather scabbard included.
