*SOLD* 1907 Colt Police Positive .38 Colt NP Nickel 4" *FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION*

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:

The Colt Police Positive was an enhanced successor to the Colt New Police, distinguished by the addition of Colt’s innovative "Positive Safety" mechanism, designed to prevent accidental discharges. Highly favored by law enforcement agencies seeking a compact and lightweight sidearm, the Police Positive earned a strong reputation for reliability and ease of use. It was manufactured in various configurations between 1907 and 1947. The Police Positive First Issue was chambered in .32 Colt, .32 Colt New Police, and .38 New Police (essentially the .38 S&W). It came with barrel lengths of 21/2", 4", 5", and 6". Finishes were offered in bright blue or bright nickel. Early models featured hard rubber grips, which were replaced in 1923 by checkered walnut grips with silver Colt medallions. Production of the First Issue ran from 1907 to 1927. The Police Positive Second Issue, produced from 1928 to 1947, introduced a grooved top strap to reduce glare and featured a slightly heavier frame. The distance between the rear of the trigger guard and the front of the grip frame was also increased to provide more space for the shooter’s fingers.
