The Savage Model 1907 Automatic Pistol emerged as a noteworthy competitor in the burgeoning pocket-pistol market of the early 20th century, a segment popularized by Colt's successful Model 1903. Released in 1907, the Savage Model 1907 was born from the desire to capitalize on the rising demand for compact, semi-automatic pistols, particularly those chambered in the .32 ACP cartridge. While Colt’s Model 1903 offered a sleek and reliable design, Savage sought to differentiate its pistol by introducing a number of innovative features. Most notably, the Model 1907 was the first to use a staggered-column, 10-round magazine, a design that would later influence many future firearms. This magazine, while increasing the grip’s width, provided a significant advantage in terms of ammunition capacity compared to competitors, which typically offered 7- or 8-round single-stack magazines.
