*SOLD* 1932 Colt 1908 Hammerless .25 ACP Blue 2" *GREAT VEST POCKET MODEL EXAMPLE*
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket, designed by John Browning and manufactured from 1908 to 1948, is a compact, hammerless, striker-fired, semi-automatic pistol chambered for the .25 ACP cartridge. Known internally as the Model "N" at Colt, the pistol was marketed as a highly concealable firearm, ideal for being carried discreetly in a vest pocket. With a length of just 4.5 inches and a weight of only 13 ounces, it was a diminutive firearm, feeding from a six-round magazine. Despite its small size, it featured several advanced safety mechanisms for its time, including a slide-locking safety, grip safety, and later a magazine safety disconnector designed by Colt engineer George Tansley in 1916, preventing accidental discharge when the magazine was removed. While the fixed sights were basic, they were sufficient for the short-range engagements the pistol was designed for. The Model 1908 saw significant production, with over 409,000 units manufactured, though production was halted during World War II to focus on wartime needs. It also served in limited capacity with American and British OSS and SOE units due to its suitability as a covert weapon. The Model 1908’s design evolved into the Baby Browning, which continues to be produced today, underscoring the enduring influence of Browning’s design for compact, easily concealable pistols.
