The Remington Model 81 Woodsmaster is a significant milestone in the history of firearms, being a direct descendant of the first successful semi-automatic rifle, the Remington Model 8, which was introduced in 1905. Designed by the legendary John Browning in collaboration with FN, the Model 8 was a breakthrough in semi-automatic rifle technology, though it wasn’t an overwhelming commercial success due to its relatively high cost. However, it laid the foundation for the Model 81, which saw production from 1936 until 1950. The Model 81 Woodsmaster introduced a few key updates to the original Model 8 design, most notably in its appearance. The stock was modified with a pistol grip, while the forearm was made larger, providing a more modern look and improving the handling of the rifle.
