*SOLD* 1976 Walther PPK/S .22 LR Blue 3.25" *RARE GERMAN MADE SEMI-AUTO PISTOL*
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Walther PP series, which includes the PP, PPK, PPK/S, and PPK/E models, is a line of blowback-operated semi-automatic pistols developed by Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen. Known for their sleek design and innovative features, these pistols were among the first successful double-action semi-automatics. The series gained popularity due to its compact size, reliability, and ease of concealment, making it a favorite among law enforcement, civilians, and military personnel alike. Notably, the PP and PPK were used by German officers and military during World War II, including the Luftwaffe and Kriminalpolizei, further cementing their historical significance. Since 2018, Walther Arms, Inc., a U.S.-based subsidiary, has been manufacturing the PPK and PPK/S models, ensuring the continued legacy of these iconic pistols.
The PPK/S model, in particular, was developed in response to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA68) in the United States, which imposed restrictions on imported firearms. By combining the frame of the PP with the slide and barrel of the PPK, Walther created the PPK/S, which met the importation requirements set forth by U.S. law. The PPK/S offers several distinctions over the PPK, including a slightly larger frame that allows for one additional round in the magazine, as well as a longer grip tang to prevent slide bite during firing. Available in calibers such as .32 ACP, .380 ACP, and .22 LR, the PPK/S is offered in both stainless steel and blued finishes. With its blend of historical significance, innovative engineering, and modern refinements, the PPK/S remains a popular choice for those seeking a reliable and compact self-defense pistol.
