*SOLD* 1982 Smith Wesson 559 9mm Blue 4" -RARE LIMITED PRODUCTION MODEL- Scarce

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:

The Smith & Wesson Model 559 is a 9mm, traditional double-action (DA/SA) semi-automatic pistol featuring a full steel frame and steel slide. It was developed as the all-steel counterpart to the alloy-framed Model 459 and is equipped with a 14-round double-stack magazine. The pistol features a 4-inch barrel and was offered in either a matte blued or nickel finish. Sights consist of a 1/8" serrated ramp front sight paired with a drift-adjustable rear sight for windage, though a very limited number (estimated at around 24 units) were produced with fixed sights. The Model 559 also includes an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker, a serrated backstrap and frontstrap for improved grip, and a lanyard loop on the butt for retention purposes. Early production models were fitted with a short, wide extractor, while later units received a longer extractor similar to the one used in the Model 39-2, though only about 200 to 250 pistols featured this variation.

The Model 559 was introduced in 1980, with shipments beginning in 1981, starting at approximately serial number A672,725. A total of 10,609 units were produced before the model was discontinued in October 1982—8,973 finished in blue and 1,636 in nickel. The pistol weighs approximately 41 ounces and was marked with an "A" serial prefix. Today, the Model 559 is highly valued by collectors for its solid construction and its relatively limited production run.
