*SOLD* DWM Mauser 1891 7.65x53mm Blue 17 3/4" *INCREDIBLE ARGENTINO CARBINE*

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:

The Argentine Small Arms Commission approached Mauser to replace their aging Remington Rolling Block rifles, resulting in an order for approximately 220,000 rifles and carbines chambered in 7.65x53mm Argentine. These weapons, designated Mauser Modelo 1891, were produced by the Ludwig Loewe Company and Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) in Berlin. The rifles featured a 29-inch barrel, straight bolt handle, and full-length military-type stock. At the same time, the carbines had a shorter 17.75-inch barrel and turned-down bolt handle to prevent snagging, making them suitable for cavalry and artillery use. Some of these carbines remained in service with the Argentine Police into the 1960s. Between 1897 and 1901, Bolivia purchased 15,000 Argentine-made Model 1891 rifles, designated Modelo 1895, which saw combat during the Chaco War.

Colombia and Ecuador also acquired Argentine-made Model 1891s, and Peru purchased several thousand identical rifles from the Ludwig Loewe & Co. factory, known as the Peruvian Model 1891. Spain initially acquired about 1,200 Model 1891 rifles and carbines for trials. In 1893, Spain purchased several thousand more to quell the Melilla revolt in the Moroccan Rif. These rifles were later shipped to Cuba and Puerto Rico to suppress insurrections. Following the Spanish–American War in 1898, American forces captured these rifles, which often had the Argentine crest removed, likely to obscure their origin.

The Model 1891 Argentine Mausers are renowned for their craftsmanship and design. It was based on the Mauser Model 1889 and featured a spring-loaded cock-on-closing bolt action, allowing for faster firing. However, the thin sheet steel barrel jacket, intended to protect the barrel, was prone to rust and denting, affecting the rifle's long-term durability. These rifles remain a significant part of military firearm history, reflecting the international influence and enduring legacy of the Mauser design.
