Bryant Ridge's Analysis

H&R 1871, LLC, widely recognized as Harrington & Richardson (H&R), is an American firearm brand and a subsidiary of JJE Capital Holdings. The company’s origins trace back to 1871 when it was initially established as Wesson & Harrington. For over a century, H&R was known for manufacturing handguns, shotguns, and rifles. However, the original H&R company struggled financially in the 1980s and ceased operations in January 1986. In 1991, H&R 1871, Inc. was created to continue the legacy, producing double-action revolvers, break-open rifles, and shotguns under the H&R and New England Firearms (NEF) brands. Marlin acquired H&R 1871 in 2000, along with the New England Firearms and Wesson & Harrington trademarks. Post-2007, the NEF brand has been limited to imported models. Both NEF and H&R shotguns are manufactured at the same facility in Gardner, Massachusetts, and are functionally identical. While the Harrington & Richardson name may be more familiar to older generations of shooters, the NEF brand has become more widely available in recent years. Among their offerings, the Pardner shotgun is available in gauges 10, 12, 16, 20, and 28, as well as .410. It includes various models such as the Youth/Compact versions with shorter barrels and the Tamer and Survivor variants.
