Both the frame and slide are made of stainless steel, with the slide and many small parts finished in matte black. Like the .45 ACP and other chamberings preceding the 10mm Auto, the Sig Sauer P220 is a single-stack, double-action/single-action pistol with an exposed hammer. Equipped with a Sig-style decocking lever, the Sig Sauer P220 is designed for safe carry, incorporating a firing pin lock to prevent discharge unless the trigger is pulled.
