Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this head turning pump-action shotgun today for a penny-start auction, this is the Browning Arms Company / Miroku Model 42 Grade I “Limited Edition!"
From 1991 to 1993, Miroku Firearms Co., Ltd. produced a revival of the Model 42 for Browning. The Grade I edition (NZ882) is often cited in collector literature as a limited run of approximately 6,000 units, featuring classic styling with a 26-inch ventilated-rib barrel, full choke, and select walnut stocks. The Grade V edition (NZ982), also around 6,000 units, offered deluxe walnut, gold-highlighted engraved artwork, and more elaborate decorative touches. Both editions preserved the original Model 42’s balance and handling while showcasing modern craftsmanship, making them highly prized by collectors.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 42 was introduced in 1933 and quickly gained a reputation among skeet shooters and upland hunters as one of the finest .410-bore pump-action shotguns ever made. Designed by William Roemer at Winchester, it was essentially a scaled-down version of the legendary Model 12, retaining the smooth handling, reliability, and balance that made its larger sibling iconic. While not directly designed by John Moses Browning, the Model 42 drew on Winchester’s decades of experience with repeating-shotgun designs, building on a long tradition of innovative lever- and pump-action firearms. Production continued until 1963, with approximately 164,800 units made. Nearly three decades later, from 1991 to 1993, the Japanese firm Miroku Firearms Co., Ltd. produced a revival of the Model 42 for Browning, with only a small portion bearing the Winchester name. This revival included the Grade I edition (suffix “NZ882”), which is widely listed in collector literature as a limited-edition run, often cited at approximately 6,000 units. It emphasized classic, understated elegance with a 26-inch ventilated-rib barrel, full choke, select walnut butt and forend with a smooth, polished finish, and a high-quality blue-steel receiver.
