The Browning BDM (Browning Dual/Double Mode) is a U.S.-designed, full-size 9mm semi-automatic service pistol produced from 1991 to 1998 by Browning Arms Company. Conceived as a clean-sheet design to compete in law-enforcement service trials, including proposals to the FBI, the BDM ultimately entered the civilian market after failing to secure major agency contracts. Its signature feature is a slide-mounted selector that allows the operator to switch between conventional double-action/single-action (DA/SA) operation and a revolver-style double-action-only (DAO) mode, while simplified BRM-DAO and BPM-D variants were offered in fixed single-mode configurations.
