Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
From the drawing board of “The Master,” John Moses Browning, emerged one of the most enduring rimfire rifles ever produced — the Browning SA-22. Introduced in 1914 and originally manufactured in Belgium by FN, and later transitioned to Miroku of Japan in 1974, the SA-22 has remained in continuous production for well over a century. Standard configuration models feature a 19 1/4-inch blued steel barrel, a tubular magazine housed in the buttstock, and the rifle’s distinctive bottom-ejecting action, which provides truly ambidextrous operation while preserving the receiver’s clean lines. Lightweight, trim, and exceptionally well balanced, the SA-22 has long been appreciated for small-game hunting and recreational shooting alike. The takedown system — allowing separation into barrel/forearm and receiver/buttstock assemblies — makes transport and maintenance simple without compromising durability or accuracy. Over the decades, the rifle has been offered in numerous grades. The traditional Grade I serves as the classic field model, while higher grades — including Grade II, Grade III, Grade IV, and select exhibition variants — feature progressively more elaborate engraving, upgraded walnut, and, in some cases, gold inlay. Across all configurations, the SA-22 remains a lasting tribute to Browning’s mechanical genius and to a design that continues to define refinement in the rimfire world.
