The Charles Daly Zastava Model 70 Superior Grade Left-Hand Mauser is a high-quality sporting rifle built by Zastava Arms of Kragujevac, Yugoslavia (now Serbia) and imported into the United States by K.B.I., Inc. under the Charles Daly brand. It is based on the classic Mauser 98 action, featuring controlled-round feeding, dual opposed locking lugs with a third safety lug, and a hinged floorplate. The Superior Grade designation denotes an upgraded version with a high-polish blued finish, an adjustable trigger, and a select European walnut stock featuring fine hand checkering, a Monte Carlo comb, and white-line spacers. The left-handed configuration was also offered and was chambered in .30-06 Springfield, which was both practical and collectible among southpaw shooters. Combining Zastava’s traditional Mauser craftsmanship with Charles Daly’s refined presentation, the Model 70 Superior Grade represents one of the finest post-war commercial Mauser rifles imported into the U.S.
