Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Second Generation black-powder reproductions of the famed Dragoon revolvers were introduced in January 1980 as part of Colt’s expanding percussion revolver line and remained in production through February 1982. These large .44-caliber holster pistols faithfully recreated the powerful Dragoons originally developed in the late 1840s as an improvement over the massive Walker revolver. The series included reproductions of the First, Second, and Third Model Dragoons, each reflecting the subtle design changes made during the original 19th-century production. The First Model Dragoon featured a square-back brass trigger guard and oval cylinder stop slots, the Second Model retained the square-back trigger guard but had rectangular cylinder stop slots, and the Third Model combined rectangular stop slots with a rounded trigger guard. Despite these differences, all three variations shared the same large Dragoon frame and .44-caliber six-shot cylinder, and their serial numbers are intermixed within the common range of 25,100 to 34,500. Each model also included the distinctive roll-engraved Texas Ranger and Indian fight scene, faithful to the historic originals.
