The Colt Post-War Ace Service Model finished in electroless nickel is an exceptionally scarce and highly desirable variation among collectors. While the vast majority of the roughly 30,000 Post-War Ace pistols were produced in Colt’s signature deep royal blue finish, only a very limited number were completed in the satin, corrosion-resistant electroless nickel finish through the Colt Custom Shop. Today, these nickel-finished models stand out not only for their striking appearance and durability but also for their rarity—making them a true prize for discerning Colt enthusiasts and rimfire pistol collectors alike.

Introduced in 1978, this model was created as an updated version of the pre–World War II Ace, which had originally been conceived as a cost-effective training alternative for military and civilian shooters seeking to practice with a pistol that mirrored the ergonomics and controls of the M1911. The Post-War Ace retained this concept but incorporated modernized manufacturing techniques and updated components, resulting in a sleek, reliable, and highly accurate rimfire pistol. Most examples were finished in Colt’s deep royal blue, though a limited number were offered through the Colt Custom Shop with a distinctive electroless nickel finish, enhancing both durability and collectability. Produced through 1989 with serial numbers ranging approximately from SM14,001 to SM43,830, the Colt Post-War Ace Service Model combined craftsmanship, practicality, and precision in a way few rimfire pistols could match.
