Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this ULTRA RARE single-action SPECIAL EDITION revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Single Action Army - 150th Anniversary Model!

This Colt Single Action Army revolver is a rare and historically significant example produced to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Colt Firearms. According to the accompanying factory letter, it was shipped to Southern Ohio Gun Distributors in Lebanon, Ohio, on December 27, 1989. Distinguished by its extensive embellishments and unique configuration, this special edition features Type “B” and “B+” American-style scroll engraving on the cylinder and barrel, along with a rare 10-inch barrel engraved with a commemorative two-line rollmark highlighting the 1836–1986 anniversary. The backstrap is auroplated in gold, adorned with the 150th Anniversary Colt logo and an elongated presentation panel. Chambered in .45 caliber with a round doughnut-style ejector rod head, this revolver was part of a limited production run assigned a special AM0001–AM1000 serial number range. However, only approximately 490 were ultimately produced, including 30 specially numbered SACOLT7 through SACOLT36 variants and two uniquely serialized examples outside the standard range—AM003 and AM213—making this commemorative Colt both exclusive and highly collectible.

This particular revolver is exceptionally rare, bearing the serial number SACOLT18, placing it among a highly exclusive group of just 30 specially produced units featuring the “SACOLT” prefix.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Single Action Army (SAA) 3rd Generation, introduced in 1976 and continuing into the present day, represents the latest chapter in the storied legacy of Colt’s most iconic revolver. Building upon the historic designs of the 1st and 2nd Generation models, the 3rd Generation maintained the classic aesthetics and handling characteristics that defined the Peacemaker while incorporating subtle mechanical updates and modern manufacturing techniques. Notable changes include the relocation of the cylinder bushing from removable to fixed—a cost-saving measure that also slightly altered the revolver’s internal tolerances. Additionally, 3rd-generation models often feature redesigned barrel threads and a wider range of calibers and barrel lengths, giving collectors and shooters more variety than ever before. These revolvers were also produced during a period of renewed interest in Old West firearms, driven in part by cinema, competitive cowboy action shooting, and a broader cultural nostalgia for the American frontier.

From a collector's standpoint, the 3rd Generation SAAs offer a fascinating blend of tradition and evolution. While some purists favor the earlier black powder and pre-war smokeless models, 3rd Generation guns—particularly early production pieces and those from the “C” prefix serial range—have earned their own following for their quality and accessibility. Many were ordered as custom-shop pieces with elaborate finishes, engraving, or exotic grips, making this generation a particularly diverse field for enthusiasts. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see 3rd Gen Colts with gold inlay, custom engraving, or limited commemorative themes that elevate them well beyond utility-grade firearms. Although Colt has introduced modern variations and continues to update its offerings, the 3rd Generation SAA remains a faithful homage to the original 1873 design—offering the same iconic profile, single-action operation, and balance that made it “The Gun That Won the West.” Whether as a shooter, display piece, or collector’s item, the 3rd Generation SAA holds firm as a beloved symbol of American firearms heritage.
