Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this ULTRA DESIRABLE semi-automatic rifle for auction; this is the Colt Sporter Match H-BAR!
The Colt Sporter Match H-BAR is a pre-ban (1989–1994) heavy-barrel AR-pattern rifle prized by collectors and competitors for its factory H-BAR profile, 20" match-oriented barrel, and original full-feature configuration prior to the 1994 import ban. Those early production years are especially sought after because they retain the period-correct furniture and controls, making these rifles desirable both as shooter-grade match guns and as collectible examples of late-20th-century Colt manufacturing.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Match H-BAR (model R6601) is Colt’s factory “sporter/match” take on the AR-15 platform built around a heavy, “HBAR” (heavy barrel) profile to improve thermal stability and intrinsic accuracy for precision and target-style shooting. Chambered in .223 Remington/5.56 NATO, the R6601 commonly sports a 20" chrome-lined HBAR barrel with a 1:7" twist in many production runs, a forged 7075/7075T6 style receiver set in A2 configuration (ribbed handguard, A2 front sight/flash hider or threaded muzzle depending on batch), and the usual AR controls and magazines — in short, it is a standard-pattern Colt AR optimized at the factory for steadier aim and more repeatable shot strings than a lightweight carbine. In practice, the Match H-BAR is valued for consistent shot placement and duty-rifle durability rather than outright long-range precision that you’d expect from a custom barreled bolt gun. The heavy barrel reduces point-of-impact shift during extended strings of fire and so helps groups tighten with the same ammunition, and the A2 stock/iron sight geometry offers a familiar, stable cheek-weld for service-rifle shooters transitioning to precision work. Tradeoffs include added weight (the HBAR profile and 20" length are heavier up front than carbine alternatives), reduced concealability and handling in close quarters, and the reality that even a factory heavy-barrel AR will not match a purpose-built precision bolt rifle for extreme-range groups; nevertheless, for club-level service-rifle matches, varminting, and as a robust precision-capable semi-auto, the R6601 is a sensible, well-supported platform. Marketly, these models were produced in the pre- and early-1990s era and show up intermittently on the used market — values and desirability are influenced by original configuration (pre-ban vs. post-ban features), bore and crown condition, presence of original muzzle device and magazines, and the condition of the barrel and gas system.
