Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Dan Wesson Model 15, introduced in 1971 by Dan Wesson Arms in Monson, Massachusetts, is a .357 Magnum double/single-action revolver built on the company’s innovative modular “switch-barrel” system, allowing shooters to change barrel lengths and shrouds on a single frame. It uses a heavy steel frame and robust locking system, including a front-of-crane cylinder release and solid lockup design, giving it a reputation for exceptional strength and alignment. The Model 15 was offered in multiple barrel and shroud configurations—commonly 2 1/2", 4", 6", and 8"—with adjustable rear sights and ramped front sights for precision shooting. The barrel screws into the frame and is drawn under tension inside the separate shroud by the muzzle nut, allowing the cylinder-to-barrel gap to be set using a feeler gauge for consistent alignment and accuracy. Shrouds were available in ventilated or solid rib designs and in partial-lug or full-lug styles, allowing customization for carry, field, or target use. The Model 15 was also offered as a Pistol Pac, further highlighting this versatility, shipping with multiple barrels, allowing one revolver to serve as a carry gun, field arm, target pistol, or hunting piece. The Model 15 combined modular versatility with the balance and durability of a full-size duty revolver, making it popular among target shooters, hunters, and collectors. Later refinements led to the Model 15-2 variant, which is widely regarded for its improved fit, finish, and reliability, and remains one of the most respected Dan Wesson revolvers among enthusiasts and collectors.
