Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Dan Wesson Firearms 715 “Pistol Pac” is one of the most iconic and innovative revolver packages ever offered to the commercial market, representing the peak of Dan Wesson’s interchangeable-barrel system. Introduced in the late 1970s and most commonly encountered in the 1980s, the Model 715 chambered in .357 Magnum allowed shooters to change barrel lengths in minutes using a tensioned barrel and external shroud system. The Pistol Pac configuration typically included multiple barrels (often 2½", 4", 6", and 8"), interchangeable shrouds, barrel wrench, feeler gauge, and a fitted hard case—effectively giving the owner several revolvers in one. This design dramatically improved accuracy by placing the barrel under tension, a feature that helped Dan Wesson revolvers earn a strong reputation in silhouette shooting, competition, and precision handgun circles. From a collector standpoint, the 715 Pistol Pac is highly regarded because it embodies Dan Wesson’s engineering-driven philosophy and practical innovation rather than cosmetic flair. Original, complete Pistol Pacs—especially those retaining all correct barrels, tools, paperwork, and the factory case—are increasingly scarce and command strong interest. The revolver’s robust construction, excellent triggers, and outstanding accuracy have kept it relevant long after production ended, and many shooters still consider the 715 one of the finest .357 Magnum revolvers ever built. Today, a complete Dan Wesson 715 Pistol Pac stands as both a functional precision handgun system and a historically significant example of American firearms ingenuity, bridging the gap between competition performance and collector desirability.
