Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Dan Wesson Model 22, introduced around 1979 by Dan Wesson Arms in Monson, Massachusetts, is a .22 Long Rifle double-/single-action revolver built on the company’s modular “switch-barrel” system, which allows shooters to change barrel lengths and shrouds on the same frame. It uses the same heavy steel frame and robust locking mechanisms as Wesson’s larger-caliber revolvers, including a front crane locking surface and a rear spring-tensioned ball bearing for cylinder lock-up, giving the rimfire version unexpectedly serious build quality. The Model 22 was offered in multiple barrel/shroud configurations—commonly 2.5", 4", 6", 8", and 10"—with target-style adjustable rear sights and ramped front sights. The barrel sits inside a separate shroud, which was available in ventilated (vent-rib) or solid-rib designs and in full-lug or partial-lug styles, and was secured by a muzzle nut to enhance barrel stability and accuracy; the adjustable barrel-cylinder gap allowed further fine-tuning. Chambered in the low-recoil .22 LR cartridge, the Model 22 carries the heft, balance, and customization options of a full-sized competition revolver, making it popular for silhouette, plinking, and target shooting, as well as a collector’s item.
