Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Ethan Allen (September 2, 1808 – January 7, 1871) was a prominent American firearms manufacturer based in Massachusetts. Despite sharing the same name, he was not related to the Revolutionary War figure Ethan Allen. Allen developed his first firearm, known as the “Pocket Rifle,” in 1836 and was granted his first patent the following year, in 1837. This particular firearm is manufactured by Ethan Allen & Co. and is identified as the Side Hammer model. It is chambered in .22 Short caliber and features a 2.5-inch octagonal barrel. The finish is blued, adding both aesthetic appeal and corrosion resistance. The pistol is equipped with a round blade front sight and a square notch rear sight, offering basic yet effective aiming capability. It utilizes a side hammer action, a signature feature of Allen’s early designs. The grip is constructed of pearl, completing the compact and practical design typical of Allen's innovative approach to 19th-century firearms.
