The FN Browning Model 1910, designed by John Browning and introduced by Fabrique Nationale in 1910, was a groundbreaking semi-automatic pistol featuring a recoil spring wrapped around the barrel—a design later adopted by pistols like the Walther PPK and Makarov. Chambered in .380 ACP or .32 ACP, it was widely used by civilians, police, and military forces, and became infamous when used by Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914, sparking World War I. Though rejected by Colt in favor of existing Browning designs, the Model 1910 found major success in Europe and remained in production for over 70 years. The FN Baby Browning, introduced in 1931 and designed by Dieudonné Saive, is a compact, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol chambered in .25 ACP. Known for its sleek design and reliability, it features a 2-inch barrel, blowback operation, a 6-round magazine, and a manual thumb safety that locks the slide. Produced by FN until 1979, with U.S. imports between 1953 and 1968, it became a popular choice for concealed carry. Special editions like the engraved "Renaissance" and lightweight aluminum-framed versions added to its appeal. Importation ceased with the 1968 Gun Control Act, and European production by MAB ended in 1983. The Baby Browning remains a notable example of early 20th-century personal defense firearms.
