Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Browning Hi-Power, introduced in 1935 and completed by FN's Dieudonné Saive after John Browning’s death, is a legendary semi-automatic pistol renowned for its 13-round magazine, short-recoil operation, and global military adoption. Used extensively during WWII by both Axis and Allied forces, and produced under various names like HP-35 and GP, it became one of the most widely issued sidearms in history. Though discontinued in 2018, its popularity spurred a wave of modern clones and FN’s 2022 relaunch with enhanced ergonomics, 17-round capacity, and ambidextrous controls—though diverging mechanically from the original. Despite these changes, the classic Hi-Power remains celebrated for its rugged reliability, single-action design, and enduring influence on military and civilian firearms alike.

The FN Browning Model 1910, designed by John Browning and introduced by Fabrique Nationale in 1910, was a groundbreaking semi-automatic pistol featuring a recoil spring wrapped around the barrel—a design later adopted by pistols like the Walther PPK and Makarov. Chambered in .380 ACP or .32 ACP, it was widely used by civilians, police, and military forces, and became infamous when used by Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914, sparking World War I. Though rejected by Colt in favor of existing Browning designs, the Model 1910 found major success in Europe and remained in production for over 70 years. Exported to the U.S. as the Browning Model 1955, its importation ceased with the Gun Control Act of 1968.
The FN Baby Browning, introduced in 1931 and designed by Dieudonné Saive, is a compact, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol chambered in .25 ACP. Known for its sleek design and reliability, it features a 2-inch barrel, blowback operation, a 6-round magazine, and a manual thumb safety that locks the slide. Produced by FN until 1979, with U.S. imports between 1953 and 1968, it became a popular choice for concealed carry. Special editions like the engraved "Renaissance" and lightweight aluminum-framed versions added to its appeal. Importation ceased with the 1968 Gun Control Act, and European production by MAB ended in 1983. The Baby Browning remains a notable example of early 20th-century personal defense firearms.
