Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this historic semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the FN Browning Hi-Power.
This FN Browning Model 35 “Grande Puissance” Hi-Power is an exceptional early Belgian military example, serial number 35041, matching on both frame and slide, and exhibiting highly desirable pre-war features including the distinctive “thumbprint” slide, ring hammer, internal extractor, slotted grip frame for shoulder stock attachment, and Type I tangent rear sight graduated to 500 meters. Chambered in 9mm, it is accompanied by its correct 13-round magazine with aluminum follower, split-tail base plate, phosphate finish, Circle “H” inspection mark, and French walnut grips, along with an additional MEG-GAR aftermarket magazine. According to noted FN historian Anthony Vanderlinden, pistols with this configuration were issued prior to 1939 to Belgian military NCOs and select troops, often paired with a detachable shoulder stock, making this a particularly significant and historically important variant.
According to the owner, “purchased in 2021 from Simpson Limited of Galesburg, Illinois, this example was described at the time as retaining approximately 70% original blue finish, with a very good bore, excellent mechanical function, and strong overall condition, including well-preserved original wooden checkered grips and clearly visible Belgian inspection proofs. It has been fired only once since acquisition and remains in excellent operating condition, cycling and firing reliably, particularly when the magazine is not fully loaded. With its correct early production features, documented provenance, and solid overall condition, this pre-war Belgian Hi-Power represents a highly desirable and collectible example of one of the most iconic military pistols of the 20th century.”
