Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Both FN and Remington produced pump-action, gallery-type rifles based on John Browning’s patent. FN manufactured its .22 Pump-Action Repeater in Europe from 1922 to 1974, while Remington produced its Model 12 and Model 121 rifles between 1909 and 1954. It seems there was an agreement between the two companies to prevent the export of the FN models into the United States, though they were available in Canada. Due to its slide action, where the magazine tube moves with the slide, the FN design earned the nickname “The Trombone.” Approximately 150,000 of these rifles were made between 1922 and 1974. The Trombone is relatively rare in the United States, with most examples brought from Canada. Collectors of gallery-pump rifles, particularly those with Remington Model 12s, should take an interest in this piece.
