Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The FN Model 1930 is a Mauser-98–pattern bolt-action short rifle manufactured by Fabrique Nationale of Belgium that employs a standard-length Mauser action and the classic controlled-feed system — a large non-rotating claw extractor, dual locking lugs, and a cocking piece/cocking indicator on the bolt tail — feeding from a 5-round internal magazine loaded by stripper clips and using a fixed receiver ejector; produced in long-rifle, short-rifle, and carbine lengths, it was most commonly chambered in 7×57mm, 7.65×53mm, and 8×57mm (with later user conversions to .30-06 and 7.62×51mm NATO documented), and contract variations include differences in barrel length (the short-rifle is commonly cited between 23–23.25 in.), rear-sight graduations and wings, handguard profiles, sling and swivel fittings, and bolt-handle style (straight or turned-down); FN manufactured each order to client specifications, producing the small but diagnostic differences collectors and historians use to group production batches, and Venezuela was a notable interwar customer — receiving substantial shipments of Model 1930 short-rifles in 7×57mm during the mid- to late-1930s (an initial tranche often cited at roughly 16,500 rifles as part of a total Venezuelan order near 30,000), with Venezuelan contract rifles typically identifiable by service markings or a national crest on the receiver ring and by the combination of short-rifle barrel length and contract-specific sight/handguard details.
