Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this unique and eye-catching single-action NON-FIRING replica revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Franklin Mint John Wayne “The Duke” Commemorative 1871 Colt!
This replica of the special revolver made by Colt for John Wayne is an exact match in every detail. The body is nickel-plated and extensively engraved with gold accents, featuring the same serial number as the original, 151284. John Wayne's signature is engraved on the grip strap, and the grips have a slightly stained appearance, mimicking Duke's real grips, which he soaked in tea for that effect. While it is not designed to load or fire bullets, the hammer, trigger, and chamber are functional, and the chamber is removable. First sold by Franklin Mint in February 1992, it came with a Certificate of Authenticity (that is now no longer accompanying it). A similar replica was released for the Centenary celebration in 2007, but it lacked the display frame and Wayne's signature on the back of the grip. The mounting pins are made from replica .45 bullet cases.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Single Action Army (also known as the Model P, Peacemaker, M1873, Single Action Army, SAA) is a single-action revolver with a revolving cylinder holding six metallic cartridges. It was designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1873 by Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company, today Colt’s Manufacturing Company, and adopted as the standard military service revolver until 1892. It is perhaps the most copied and fraudulently modified to replicate an original Colt SAA, as compared to any other revolver. The Colt Single Action Army is perhaps the quintessential old west handgun, produced for over a century, serving the U.S. Army as its sidearm from 1873 into the First World War and captivating audiences on the silver screen. The advent of television and Western programs such as Hopalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger, The Cisco Kid, and The Gene Autry Show breathed new interest in the guns that won the West, and the Single Action Army was reborn. Perhaps its most famous user is movie legend John “The Duke” Wayne. He appeared in nearly 200 film and television roles from the 1920s to the 1970s and is most famous as an iconic cowboy hero, essentially synonymous with American Western movies.
