The Harrington & Richardson M1 Garand is a faithful and historically significant example of one of America’s most iconic military rifles. It is outfitted with a smooth hardwood stock and traditional iron sights—consisting of a wing-protected blade front and an adjustable aperture rear—designed for rapid target acquisition and battlefield utility. As one of the post-World War II government contractors authorized to produce the M1 Garand, Harrington & Richardson began manufacturing these rifles in the 1950s to supplement Springfield Armory production and ensure the U.S. military had an ample supply during the Korean War and early Cold War period.

Though not manufactured during World War II, H&R Garands are mechanically identical to their wartime predecessors and are widely respected for their quality and adherence to military specifications. This model reflects the classic design principles set forth by its Canadian-American inventor, John Garand. As the first standard-issue autoloading rifle adopted by the U.S. military, the M1 Garand changed the face of infantry combat by offering significantly higher rates of fire compared to bolt-action rifles. Praised by General George S. Patton as “the greatest battle implement ever devised,” the Garand served as the backbone of American infantry during World War II and the Korean War. Rifles like this H&R-produced example remain highly sought after by collectors, historians, and shooters alike—not only for their battlefield legacy but for their reliable performance and enduring craftsmanship.
