Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Henry H010 Steel Lever Action is Henry Repeating Arms’ big-bore entry into classic lever-gun territory: a purpose-built .45-70 Government lever rifle that blends traditional lines with modern manufacturing and materials. Built on a solid blued steel receiver with a round, target-profile barrel (about 18.4" on many H010 examples) and a four-round tubular magazine, the H010 presents a compact, hard-hitting package that’s shorter and handier than many other .45-70 lever guns while retaining stout construction and positive lockup. Henry outfits the rifle with an American walnut stock (checkered on many factory rifles), a solid recoil pad to help manage the cartridge’s stout impulse, and modern XS Ghost Ring WS sights—an aperture rear paired with a white-stripe post front—that improve rapid target acquisition and sighting precision. Model variants and trim levels exist (for example H010B with brass receiver styling and H010G designations on some product pages), but the mechanical core—lever operation, front-loading tubular magazine and solid steel receiver—remains consistent across the family.

In practice the H010 is built to be a compact woods rifle and truck gun for heavy-pushing big-game cartridges: the .45-70 from an 18–19" barrel behaves as a hard-hitting, close-range brush-busting round with strong terminal performance, and the H010’s relatively short overall length and roughly 7-lb weight make it easier to carry and point in dense cover than longer-barreled counterparts. Shooters note the rifle’s smooth, predictable lever action and report that the front-loading magazine liner and lack of a traditional side-gate loading port give the H010 a tidy, period-inspired loading approach while simplifying magazine maintenance. Recoil is brisk—expected for .45-70 in a relatively light, short-barrel platform—so the solid recoil pad and a solid shooting position help control the punch; many owners recommend trying a range of factory loads (and premium jacketed bullets) to find the best accuracy/recoil balance for their needs. The H010 has been well received as a modern, affordable take on classic big-bore lever guns: robust enough for practical hunting, compact enough for brush and truck use, and distinctive enough in the Henry lineup to attract attention among lever-action enthusiasts.
