Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The first derringer was mfg. about 1962, at the approximate serial number 1,261,903 in Hamden, CT. The serial numbers continued in the handgun serial number series until serial number 2,500,464 in 1975, when the derringers were put into a separate serial number group with a D prefix, D 1,001 through D 96,098 V. Serial number D 12,047 was the last Hamden made gun, with E. Hartford production beginning with D 13,000. After 1976, the guns were made in East Hartford. Three different styles of roll marking methods were used during production. The First style is marked with the caliber and "D-100" or "DM-101" on left side of frame, "Hi-Standard Derringer" with eagle logo on left side of barrel. The Second style is marked with the caliber and "D-100", "D-101", or "DM-101" on left side of frame, "Hi-Standard Derringer" with trigger logo on left side of barrel. Both the first and second types were marked “HIGH STANDARD MFG. CORP./-HAMDEN, CONN. U.S.A.-” The Third style is marked with the caliber and "D-101" or "DM-101" on left side of frame, "Derringer" on left side of barrel. The third style was marked with different addresses and company names on the right side of the barrel. Style 3A is marked on the right side of the barrel the same as types one and two. Type 3B is marked with "HIGH STANDARD MFG. CORP./-E. HARTFORD, CONN. US.A.-" and type 3C is marked "HIGH STANDARD INC./-E. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.-" Later third style is not marked with the "D-101" or "DM-101". The early derringers had a grooved back grip strap, which changed to a smooth grip strap just before the move to E. Hartford.
