Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
High Standard Firearms, founded in 1926 in New Haven, Connecticut, built its reputation as one of America’s premier makers of precision .22-caliber target pistols. High Standard had operated in Hamden in 1945, then East Hartford in 1977, before later relocating to Houston, Texas. Originally a parts supplier, the company had quickly become known for pistols that combined accuracy, durability, and user-friendly features such as a M1911A1-inspired grip angle and manual safety, making them popular with competitive shooters. From 1926 to 2018, High Standard pistols dominated NRA Bullseye competitions, earning lasting acclaim with celebrated models like the Victor, Supermatic, Citation, Trophy, and Olympic. Alongside these premium offerings, the company also introduced the Dura-Matic M-101, an affordable striker-fired pistol chambered in .22 Long Rifle and offered in either 4 1/2- or 6 1/2-inch barrels, fixed sights, push-button magazine release, and a thumb-screw barrel takedown system. Produced until 1970 (with a renamed “Plinker” version made until 1973), the M-101 stood out for its oversized plastic grips, which doubled as part of the frame, and its simple, reliable design that brought High Standard quality to a broader market.
