Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Hopkins & Allen Double-Action No. 6 was a compact, solid-frame revolver produced in the late 19th century, marketed as a practical and affordable sidearm for everyday use. Marked “DOUBLE ACTION No. 6 – HOPKINS & ALLEN ARMS CO. – NORWICH, CONN. U.S.A.,” it was manufactured in both .32 S&W and .38 caliber chamberings, with a six-shot cylinder and a double-action mechanism that allowed it to be fired either by cocking the hammer or by a single pull of the trigger. Typically fitted with short barrels, hard rubber or wooden grips, and offered in blued or nickel finishes, the No. 6 was designed for concealment and personal protection rather than military or police service. While it lacked the refinement of Colt or Smith & Wesson revolvers of the era, surviving examples show it was a sturdy, functional, and representative example of Hopkins & Allen’s emphasis on economical firearms for the working class during America’s period of industrial and urban growth.
